Biography - Tracy S. Morris |

|
Writer, photographer, gardener and herbalist, kamikaze speller, occasional fencer and martial artist, trivia and history buff, lady in waiting to the most spoiled dog on the planet (All hail Essey! Queen of the sofa! She who must be obeyed!).
I live in Fort Smith, Arkansas with my husband, Ryan, and the aforementioned spoiled dog. I'm convinced that ferrets are plotting to take over the world. Which probably tells you all you need to know about me.
I've been writing seriously since I was twelve. Early on in life, I was warped (in a good way) by Selina Rosen. You see, I decided that I wanted to be a professional writer when I was still in junior high. Turns out that my aunt knew a writer. She introduced us, and Selina started editing my first stories.
Because at that point I was reading whatever Selina happened to be published in, it's pretty unsurprising that a lot of my early influences came out of Marion Zimmer Bradley's Fantasy Magazine.
I mostly drifted away from writing in college as I picked up a camera and discovered photography. At that time I was getting heavily involved in online fandom. Yes, I did write fanfiction. Yes, it is still available on the web. No, I'm not proud of it. It's extremely unedited, and not very good, to be quite frank. If you do find it, and decide to read it, fine. But please don't tell me about it.
Anyway, a few years later, I went to Aggie Con. There, a lot of people I knew were involved in paneling for various projects. So I started thinking: hey, I could do that! (writing professionally, not paneling)
In 2001, I got out of a bad relationship and moved home. In 2002, I met my husband (wonderful, supportive man he is). As an added bonus, he's great at editing my stories. So what can you do when your #1 fan turns out to be a terrific editor as well? Well, I married the guy in 2004. Which just goes to prove that I am one smart cookie.
In 2005, My first novel, Tranquilty, was released through Yard Dog Press.

 | Coming in August, 2008: My story Attack of the Godless Undead Zombies has been picked up for reprint in the Benbella Books anthology The Best of the Bubbas .
This was my second story that had ever been published and one that I'm quite proud of.
However, the humor in this book is not for everyone.Yes, Mom. I'm talking about you. |
 | Now Available! Tranquility, One half of Double Dog #2, from the good folks at Yard Dog Press. This one has it all, folks. Cultists, animal mutilation, red-eyed monsters, bomb-making teens, D.B. Cooper, ferrets, treasure, mystery, comedy, suspense, and the naked wiccan newbie scene. With spork! I recently had the chance to read it's partner story, Bill Allen's Gods And Other Children. Both stories should work very well together. Although the settings are wildly different, both books have at their core the same Southern SciFi themes. | | Alias Assumed: Sex, Lies and SD-6 My story in the BenBella Books anthology Alias Assumed: Sex, Lies and SD-6 will be out in August of 2005. This is one of the numerous media-themed anthologies that BenBella Books is known for. In addition to Science Fiction writers, the anthology will contain essays by members of the CIA, and other specialists in fields that relate somehow to the show. My essay is called Geek Chic , and takes a very tongue-in-cheek look at Marshall. | | | Other stories | Tranquility, one half of Double Dog #2 along with Bill D. Allen's Gods and Other Children can be found through Yard Dog Press or through Amazon. My Current Chapbook, Medieval Misfits, which can be ordered through my publisher, Amazon.
